The Family & Children’s Law Center has an excellent opportunity for a bilingual (Spanish) staff attorney. The Family & Children's Law Center (FACLC) provides high-quality, low-cost legal services to children and families on matters ranging from domestic violence and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status predicate orders, to child custody and support.
We seek an energetic, culturally sensitive attorney with a strong commitment to public interest and social justice advocacy to represent traditionally underserved populations. To promote social justice and best serve our clients, Family & Children’s Law Center is committed to maintaining a diverse staff and providing services with cultural humility. We strongly encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented communities and historically oppressed groups including People of Color and/or LGBTQ+ individuals to apply. Responsibilities: Preparing pleadings and Judicial Council Forms in a variety of family law areas, correspondence, conducting client interviews, and negotiating with opposing parties and counsel.
The staff attorney also will represent Family & Children’s Law Center clients in court hearings in Marin County Superior Court. Responsibilities also include keeping records as needed for purposes of grant reporting and timekeeping and assisting with agency fundraising efforts and events.
Qualifications:
• Member in good standing of the State Bar of California. Recent bar takers may also be considered (continued employment contingent on passing)
• Spanish fluency is required
• Knowledge and experience in family law including domestic violence preferred by not required
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
• Well-organized, motivated, creative, and independent, yet also able to work in a team oriented environment
• Commitment to providing services with cultural humility and trauma informed care
• Excellent verbal, research, interpersonal, writing, and interviewing skills • Commitment to the Family & Children’s Law Center’s mission and work
• Sense of humor appreciated
• Valid California Driver’s License required.
Hours and Days per Week: 40 hours per week, exempt. Schedule flexible. Partially hybrid (remote/in person) available for the right candidate.
Compensation/Benefits: Compensation will be dependent on experience ($75,000- $80,000 per year). Family & Children’s Law Center benefits include 10 holidays (plus December 25th-January 1st every year), vacation, sick leave, and health/dental/vision insurance (for employees 32+ hours per week).
